HYSpeed Share Buttons (WordPress plugin) · Last updated: October 2026
In short: HYSpeed Share Buttons does not send your visitors’ data to the plugin author or to any analytics, advertising or tracking service. It stores share-click counts and a short-lived anti-spam key on your own WordPress site, and it uses no cookies on the public side of your website.
1. Who we are
HYSpeed Share Buttons is a free, open-source WordPress plugin developed by Himanshu Yadav (himanshusir.in). This policy explains what the plugin does with data. Site owners who install the plugin are the data controller for their own visitors’ data; the plugin author does not receive or have access to it.
2. What the plugin stores on your site
All data is stored in your own WordPress database. Nothing is transmitted to the plugin author.
| Data | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Plugin settings (networks, colours, display rules, messages) | To run the plugin as you configured it | Until you delete the plugin |
| Share-click counts per post (post meta, plus optional starting count you set) | To display click-based share counts and the statistics page | Until you reset the counts or delete the plugin |
| A short-lived anti-spam key (a hashed value derived from the post ID and the visitor’s IP address, kept as a WordPress transient) | To stop rapid repeat clicks from inflating counts | Expires automatically after the “Share Throttle” time (5 minutes by default; you can change it or set 0 to disable) |
The visitor’s IP address is not saved in readable form by the plugin and is not shown anywhere. It is used only to build the hashed throttle key described above.
3. What the plugin does not do
- It does not set cookies on the public side of your website.
- It does not load third-party scripts, fonts, trackers or analytics, and does not make background calls to social network APIs.
- It does not collect names, email addresses or any other personal profile data.
- It does not sell, share or use data for advertising.
In the WordPress admin area only, the settings screen remembers which tab you last opened using your browser’s local storage. This stays in your browser and contains no personal data.
4. Third-party share services
Share buttons are normal links. When a visitor clicks one, their browser opens the chosen network’s own share page (for example WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn or Pinterest) with the page URL and, for some networks, the page title. From that point the visitor is dealing directly with that network, whose own terms and privacy policy apply. The plugin does not send any data to these networks before the visitor clicks.
5. Share counts
Counts are click-based: they record clicks on share buttons on your site. They are not official totals from any social network. If a site owner sets a starting count, the displayed number equals the starting count plus the clicks recorded on that site.
6. Legal basis and retention (for site owners)
If you operate under laws such as the GDPR or UK GDPR, the throttle key is used for the legitimate interest of keeping share statistics accurate and the site secure. Because the key expires within minutes and is stored in hashed form, the plugin is designed to keep personal data to a minimum. Please reflect your use of this plugin in your own site’s privacy policy as appropriate.
7. Your choices and rights
- Disable the throttle: set Share Throttle to 0 in the plugin settings and no anti-spam key is created.
- Reset counts: use “Reset all click counts” on the Stats tab, or reset a single post’s counts in the post editor.
- Remove everything: deleting the plugin from the Plugins screen removes its settings and count data from your database.
Because the plugin author holds none of your visitors’ data, requests to access or delete personal data should be made to the owner of the website you visited.
8. Children
The plugin is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
9. Donations
The plugin’s admin screen may show an optional donation QR code. Donations are made voluntarily through a third-party payment app and are handled entirely by that service under its own privacy policy. The plugin itself does not process payments.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the plugin changes. The “Last updated” date above shows the latest revision. Significant changes will also be noted in the plugin’s changelog.
